Jessica is a Pokémon Stylist training under Barry. She was initially assigned to groom a Furfrou that basically wanted nothing to do with her—the two just didn't click at first. She ended up meeting Ash and his crew when her uncooperative Furfrou crashed into Bonnie and hurt her pretty badly.
Things came to a head when Team Rocket snatched the Furfrou. That's when Jessica actually stepped up, gathered her nerve, and broke into their hideout to get her Pokémon back. The rescue mission did the trick—Furfrou finally warmed up to her. By the episode's end, she gave it a proper trim, and they'd actually bonded.
