Dr. Kiriko—best known as Black Jack's dark mirror and rival—operates in the same shadowy world of underground medicine, traveling globally and charging astronomical fees for his specialized work. Fans often call him the "Death Doctor," a nickname that hints at his philosophy: shaped by his experiences in World War II, he's come to believe that death can be a mercy, sometimes preferable to a life of endless suffering.
Like Black Jack himself, Kiriko is an unlicensed physician working outside the system. But where Black Jack saves lives, Kiriko has become comfortable with the idea of ending them. His wartime trauma left deep scars that fundamentally changed how he sees medicine and mortality.
