Kento Hinode serves as the deuteragonist in Nakitai Watashi wa Neko wo Kaburu. He's a middle school student and close friend of Masamichi Isami.
Physically, Kento is an average-height boy with short black hair and notably large eyes. He's almost always seen in a crisp school uniform.
His personality is quiet and reserved—the type who only really opens up to people he's close with. He's admitted he wishes he could be as openly friendly as Miyo, but he struggles with self-expression and tends to shut down around pushy people. He was genuinely embarrassed and upset when Miyo's letter to him got read aloud at school.
Kento lives with his grandparents in a multi-generational household and is their only grandson, so he shoulders a lot of responsibility helping out in the family pottery workshop. His grandfather's craft has rubbed off on him, and he's developed a real interest in pottery. His older sister, by contrast, mostly just lounges around the house.
At school, Kento keeps to himself partly because of past incidents, but Muge gradually breaks through that wall and gets him to interact more. After classes, he's busy with work at the family workshop, household chores, and hanging out with a stray cat named Taro. Except Taro's actually Muge disguised as a cat. What starts as a simple friendship eventually spirals into something far more complicated, pulling both of them into strange difficulties both at school and in another world entirely.
