Yatora is a second-year high school student who somehow maintains excellent grades while living a delinquent lifestyle. His life feels hollow and predictable until he stumbles into the Art Club and watches his senpai Mori paint—a moment that sparks something in him. He becomes obsessed with art and commits himself to passing Tokyo University of the Arts' entrance exam.
On the surface, Yatora appears hardworking and composed. Underneath, though, he's deeply insecure, especially once he starts creating art himself. He's naturally extroverted and reads people well, which makes him excellent at figuring out what others want and molding himself to fit. The downside is he constantly buries his own needs and feelings. When stress or unexpected situations hit, he leans hard on these practiced social skills—but when his mask slips, the floodgates open and he breaks down emotionally.
He's brutally self-critical. His standards are sky-high while his self-worth is rock-bottom, and he has a habit of measuring himself against everyone around him. It paralyzes him sometimes. What's interesting is that despite all this self-doubt, he genuinely admires and respects the work of other artists. His anxiety cuts deep enough that he'll even push through extreme stress—breaking out in rashes, caught between exams—just to be there for someone like Ryuji if they need him.
