Livius is the young king of the Sun Kingdom—ruling at an age most would consider far too early. His people call him a conqueror, and he's lived up to the nickname by dominating his land. But he's ambitious enough to want more: he's set his sights on conquering the skies themselves.
His plan to do it? Marry Nike, a princess with the rare ability to control weather. Livius is tired of endless sunshine in his kingdom and believes Nike can give him the rain he needs. It's part ambition, part desperation—his land is literally parched.
His childhood explains a lot of his current coldness. His mother was a commoner, which made her a scandal at court, so she and Livius lived isolated in the castle. After she died, everything changed. He inherited the throne three years later and transformed into someone ruthless and suspicious, surrounded only by people he doesn't trust. Neil has pointed out what should be obvious: Livius never learned how to connect with others because enemies are all he's ever known. It's hard to reach out when you've been taught the world is dangerous.
