Occupation: Passione Mafia Boss
Diavolo is the main villain of Part 5, and his origin story is genuinely bizarre. He was born in a female prison—his mother's claims about his conception don't add up since she said it happened two years before her sentence, yet all the guards were women. While his mother served time, a priest in Sardinia raised him. When Diavolo turned 19, the priest was building him an apartment when he discovered Diavolo's mother buried alive beneath a stone tablet. A fire broke out shortly after, and though the priest and Diavolo were supposedly among the seven who died, he actually survived and went on to join Passione.
Early in his criminal career, he tracked down the bow and six Arrows in Egypt, then immediately cashed in by selling five of them to Enya Geil while keeping one for himself—that arrow would eventually end up on Polpo's Black Sabbath Stand. Between the events of Stardust Crusaders and Golden Wind, Diavolo systematically hunted down all his blood relatives and anyone who'd discovered his true identity, obsessed with erasing his name from existence entirely. During his years running Passione, he operated under the pseudonym Soliddo Nazo. The name Diavolo itself means "devil" in Italian, which pretty much says everything you need to know about his personality and role.
Vinegar Doppio
Doppio is Diavolo's second personality—young, innocent, and genuinely unhinged in his own way. He sees himself as Diavolo's most trusted subordinate, which says a lot about how compartmentalized Diavolo's mind is. When Diavolo needs to interact with the outside world without blowing his cover, Doppio handles it. But the moment someone figures out who Diavolo really is, Doppio transforms into him. Doppio communicates with Diavolo through an object that only he can hear ringing—it makes him look either insane or deeply unsettling, especially to kids. He's famous for making the sound "turururu~" mimicking a phone, which is fitting given his role as basically a human answering service. Doppio means "double" in Italian, a pretty on-the-nose way to describe what he actually is.
Stand: King Crimson
King Crimson is a light red humanoid with a face that appears to contain a smaller copy of itself on its forehead—probably reflecting Diavolo's fractured psyche. The Stand's signature ability is predicting up to ten seconds into the future and "erasing time," essentially skipping ahead several seconds where everything except King Crimson and Diavolo suddenly shifts to where it would've been. Time still flows normally for Diavolo himself, and he can choose which objects to interact with during the skip. When he looks at the erased time period, all the "would-have-been" states of objects appear overlapped, like a weird visual echo.
In practical terms: a bullet's coming at him, he predicts it, erases the moment it would've hit, and it's suddenly behind him instead—shifted to where it would've naturally gone seconds later. It's less about stopping things and more about stepping sideways through causality.
