Souma comes across as serious and intense—the type to pull his sword on someone he thinks is being dishonest, especially when emotions are running hot. His family carries serious clout in the kendo world thanks to the Kanzaki style, and that background clearly shapes how he approaches life. When he messes up, he'll own it, but then he tends to spiral into self-blame and throw himself into training as a way to make up for it.
What's interesting is that despite this rigid personality, he joined the Marine Bio Club—which has a pretty sketchy reputation around campus—mostly because he deeply respects Kanata Shinkai. He and Kaoru Hakaze from the club don't mesh well, but he gets along great with Adonis Otogari, who's in his class.
