Ochiai
Ochiai was a scientist and member of the Immortal Ship Committee centuries before the events of the main story. He's best known as the leading expert on Gauna behavior and biology—basically the foremost researcher on the subject during his time.
His experiments were ambitious, but they nearly destroyed Sidonia entirely. The situation got serious enough that he was arrested for it. After that, the Immortal Ship Committee made sure his extensive knowledge of the Gauna wasn't lost—they transferred it into an auxiliary brain that only the Committee itself can fully access.
