Ryou Asano is one of Ichigo's classmates at Karakura High and a standout first-year track athlete—she can reportedly run 100 meters in 12 seconds, which Kon learned the hard way. Beyond athletics, she's genuinely smart and always has her nose in a book. She ranks second in her grade academically and excels in both academics and martial arts. As the freshman class representative, she basically gets a free pass from the faculty.
That said, she's pretty cold. She envies Orihime and pushes herself hard to outdo her, but beyond that competitive streak, Ryou doesn't really engage with people. She showed no sympathy when Uryuu got hurt fighting a Menos Grande, prefers being alone to hanging with Michiru and Chizuru, and doesn't hesitate to dismiss others—she called Kon "a filthy stuffed animal" when he got in her way. She rarely makes eye contact and almost never smiles; fans have only caught her doing it twice in the series.
