Curly Dadan is best known as the tough-as-nails foster mother who raised both Portgas D. Ace and Monkey D. Luffy. An old friend of Garp's, she took in Ace shortly after his birth when Garp asked her to look after him—and later, Luffy ended up in her care too. She lives on Mt. Corvo near Windmill Village, where she runs the Dadan family as a mountain bandit boss. As a wanted criminal herself, she's not exactly respectable, but she clearly cares about the kids in her charge.
Fans first got wind of her existence after the Enies Lobby arc, when Garp visited Water 7 and casually mentioned he'd left both boys with "a friend" to train. It was Mayor Woop Slap who actually name-dropped her—he saw Luffy's new bounty poster and immediately freaked out, asking "Does Dadan know!?"
