Tama is a repurposed cleaning robot originally designed as a maid unit, though she never quite made it off the factory floor. Her cleaning protocols went haywire—instead of doing the job right, she'd obsess over it, scrubbing everything into oblivion. Unsurprisingly, she got rejected.
Rather than scrap her entirely, the inventor Hiraga Gengai saw potential. He decapitated the broken unit, salvaged what he could, and rebuilt her from the ground up for Tama's use. The result was someone far more interesting than her original purpose ever allowed.
