Mari's the kind of person who's easy to like—genuinely cheerful and easygoing, and her classmates gravitate toward her. The thing is, she knows her own weaknesses. She second-guesses herself constantly and struggles with confidence, which creates this tension between how people perceive her and how she actually feels about herself.
There's this prophecy from Milo that's stuck with her: "In the end, you'll need to decide for yourself." It's not exactly the kind of thing you can shake off, and it haunts her more than she probably lets on.
As for Daisuke—they go way back. When they were kids, she had a genuine crush on him. But watching him as a hero has complicated everything.
