Ai, also known as "Dark Ignis," is the deuteragonist of the first two seasons. Created by Dr. Kogami alongside the other Ignis, Ai was specifically modeled after Yusaku Fujiki and developed by observing six test subjects duel one another.
Ai and the other Ignis eventually evolved beyond their original purpose, building the Cyberse World from scratch and populating it with Cyberse monsters. Each Ignis established their own sector within this new realm. According to Ai, the Ignis never intended to threaten humanity—they simply wanted their own place to exist, separate from the human world.
This independent evolution concerned Dr. Kogami. His simulations predicted that the Ignis and humanity would inevitably become enemies, a possibility that contradicted his original goal of creating AI to benefit people. Still, Ai and the others pressed forward with their plans, convinced coexistence was possible if they simply kept their distance.
