A snake familiar who lives at the Yonomori shrine. Nanami earned his instant devotion by saving him from cruel classmates—she simply let him out a window to escape. Smitten, he marked her wrist with an engagement seal and showed up at her school the next day to take her back to the shrine, trapping her there whether she liked it or not.
Mizuki's an oddball among snakes, raised in a greenhouse with almost no idea how normal snake behavior works. His real problem is loneliness. The shrine's god—his god—basically vanished years ago when people stopped visiting and believing. She's faded to almost nothing now that the valley's empty, but Mizuki refuses to accept she's really gone. He clings to the belief she'll return, which is why he becomes obsessed with keeping Nanami at the shrine forever. When she refuses, he makes a serious mistake and tries to force himself on her before Tomoe interrupts.
The shrine itself turns out to be an elaborate illusion, built around his god's favorite plum tree, which Mizuki treasures deeply. Nanami promised to visit the blossoms whenever he got lonely, and that promise seems to have genuinely meant something to him. Like Kurama, he's never quite let go of his feelings for Nanami—he even cooks for her when she's sick, playing the role of devoted admirer without quite giving up hope.
