Yasutora Sado's grandfather and the man who raised him. Oscar Joaquín is a surprisingly strong old man with a gentle nature—the kind of person who leads by example rather than words.
After Chad's parents died, Oscar Joaquín adopted him and brought him to Mexico, where Chad grew up calling him "Abuelo." As a kid, Chad was a nightmare: he used his size to bully and beat other children without hesitation. Oscar Joaquín tried teaching him to be kind, but it didn't stick at first. That changed when the fathers of Chad's victims came looking for payback. Instead of fighting back, Oscar Joaquín stepped between them and took the beating meant for his grandson. It hit Chad hard—he realized what his grandfather was really trying to show him. From that point on, Chad committed himself to being better.
As a keepsake and reminder, Oscar Joaquín gave Chad a Mexican coin, an old one minted sometime between 1823 and 1909, stamped with "Republica Mexicana" and the Mexican National Emblem. It became the physical anchor to his promise.
Years later, after Oscar Joaquín's death, Chad vowed never to fight unless protecting someone else—a principle his grandfather had modeled for him. He's said the coin means more to him than his own life. When Abuelo finally passed away, Chad decided to return to Japan.
