Shorter runs Chinatown with an iron fist—or at least, that's what you'd think until you realize he's basically Ash's moral compass wrapped in a street thug package. He's got that rare thing where he actually cares about doing right by people, even when loyalty pulls him in opposite directions that can't be reconciled. It's what makes him dangerous and weirdly noble at the same time.
The guy's genuinely skilled at everything: hand-to-hand, guns, disappearing into the shadows. He can pull off a complete disguise convincingly enough to trick Eiji into thinking he's some scatterbrained old Chinese dude. But what really sets him apart is his humor—he'll crack a joke or flash that crooked grin even when everything's falling apart around him. That charisma lets him command the street kids' loyalty without much effort.
Visually, Shorter's hard to miss. He starts the series with a mohawk, then just goes full bald by volume two and never looks back. The sunglasses are basically permanent—the guy wears them everywhere, cornfield at midnight included. Creator Akimi Yoshida drew inspiration from Sunplaza Nakano when designing him, which tracks with that whole vibe he's got going.
