When the Battle of the Dinant Plains erupted at the story's start, Regin was reported killed in action. She actually survived thanks to loyal servants and went underground. While Thenardier and Ganelon suspected she might still be alive, they didn't waste time taking advantage of the King's declining health to consolidate power. Tigre eventually stumbled across her being hunted by Mouzinel soldiers and saved her life. After the battle, she came clean about her real identity to him, Ellen, Mira, Rim, and Marthus—and asked for their help reclaiming her rightful throne.
