An ordinary girl who's remarkable precisely because she isn't—that's Ryza. She's got a wild, tomboyish streak and a genuinely strong sense of justice, though she can be stubborn when she believes in something. Still, her heart's always in the right place.
Ryza grows up on Kurken Island with her parents, but farm life isn't for her. She'd rather ditch her family responsibilities and explore the mainland, spending most of her time with her childhood friends Tao Mongarten and Lent Marslink. She naturally falls into the role of leader in their group.
Everything shifts when Ryza and her friends nearly get killed by a monster on the mainland—until Empel Vollmer and Lila Decyrus step in to save them. That's when she discovers alchemy and becomes Empel's student. The skills stick with her fast, and soon she's using alchemy to help townspeople and take on real adventures. Her mother doesn't approve of the whole thing, though, so Ryza and her friends do what any determined group of kids would do: they build a secret hideout where they can pursue their interests without interference from parents or island life. They call it "Atelier Ryza"—her personal alchemy workshop.
