Hong Meiling is a youkai—though nobody's quite sure what type she is. She works as the gatekeeper of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, running security alongside her crew. What she's really known for is her martial arts skill; fans often note her fighting style incorporates Shin-Kyaku, a signature move from Chinese martial arts that shows up in her combat animations.
When the heroines showed up at the mansion during the events of Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, Meiling put up a solid fight to keep them out. She didn't manage to stop them, though—one of her more memorable failures, as far as her job goes.
