Koudai Oozora is a sea captain—and a pretty absent one at that, spending most of his time away from home. He's married to Natsuko and is the father of Tsubasa and Daichi, who came along after Tsubasa was already born.
Because Koudai's always at sea, Natsuko ends up doing most of the heavy lifting when it comes to raising the boys. But when he is around, he makes an impact. He's genuinely close with Roberto Hongo, and at one point actually stepped in to save Roberto's life during a suicide attempt. Koudai even connected Roberto with a top ophthalmologist in Nankatsu, Japan, when he needed help.
Roberto basically repaid that kindness by staying with the Oozora family and becoming Tsubasa's coach. He recognized the kid's raw talent and took him under his wing, teaching him everything from soccer fundamentals to the discipline needed to make it as a pro. It's one of those situations where one good deed spirals into something that changes a kid's whole future.
