The couple left their home and family to work in the Kanda region, where they earned respect from fellow doctors like Marcoh and Knox—and saved countless Ishvalan lives in the process. However, their neutral humanitarian work made them a target. Amestrian military officials, viewing their efforts as an obstacle rather than an asset, decided they had to go.
Yuriy was Winry's father, Pinako's son, and would have been Edward Elric's father-in-law. He never got to meet his grandchildren with Winry.
