Mu Qing—also called General Xuan Zhen—is a Martial God who commands the southwest and boasts seven thousand temples under his name. He's best known these days as a proud, sarcastic immortal with a sharp tongue, but eight hundred years back, he was just Xie Lian's personal attendant, handling laundry and getting him dressed each morning.
The thing about Mu Qing is the gap between how he comes across and who he actually is. On the surface, he's dismissive, cold, and acts like he wouldn't lift a finger to help anyone. People assume he's selfish and heartless. Xie Lian's take is that Mu Qing is narrow-minded, petty, and easily offended—the type to spit in someone's cup out of spite, though not poison it. Mu Qing hates that comparison and denies it outright, disgusted by the image. But the truth is, he's genuinely caring and thoughtful. The problem is his perpetually sneering demeanor makes people doubt his good intentions or assume the worst of him when he actually tries to do something decent.
He's pragmatic by nature—thinks long-term, adapts to whatever situation he's in. When it came to a dead general they found, he explained it plainly: soldiers kill to survive, even when it feels wrong. That's just how it works.
His real focus is on cultivation, expanding his territory, and building up his believers. Interestingly, he's got this soft, gentle voice that completely contradicts his usual petty attitude. Despite growing up poor, he carries himself like an elegant scholar and fits right in with the other Heavenly Officials.
