Hop is your neighbor and rival throughout the game. Like his older brother Leon—the undefeated Champion—Hop's dream is to become Champion himself. He kicks off his adventure with Wooloo as his partner and grabs one of the starter Pokémon, though it'll be weak to whatever you picked (so the game keeps things competitive between you two).
Early on, both of you stumble across a mysterious Pokémon in the Slumbering Weald. After that encounter, Leon shows up and gives Hop his endorsement, which obviously means a lot to him. That's pretty much where things take off—you two board the train to Motostoke together, and from there, your separate journeys as trainers begin.
