Pastoll was a veteran vice admiral who'd fought in over a hundred battles by the time of his death. He commanded the Free Planets Alliance's 4th Fleet and was friends with Paeta, who led the 2nd Fleet.
He's best known for being killed in action during the Battle of Astarte, when Reinhard von Lohengramm launched a devastating blitzkrieg before the Alliance forces could mount a proper defense.
