Mochizou grew up as Tamako's neighbor and childhood friend—their families run competing mochi shops directly across the street from each other. There's some friction between their dads over business, but that's never really stopped him and Tamako from being close. He's pretty clearly in love with her, though that's another thing altogether when it comes to actually saying something about it. His family owns Ouji-ya, while Tamako's family runs Tama-ya.
