He's the type who keeps his cool no matter what, rarely cracking an expression. As an investigator, he's genuinely dedicated, but that dedication borders on reckless; he's known for killing more ghouls than the job probably calls for, and his teammates have called him out on it more than once. He moves fast on leads, sometimes too fast, and has a bad habit of charging ahead solo rather than waiting for backup. The reason? Pure ambition. He wants rank, recognition, and he doesn't want to share the credit. He'll even manipulate his own squad members if it means getting ahead—and that's caused real friction in the team.
Underneath the cool exterior, though, there's jealousy eating at him. Sasaki especially gets under his skin, and Urie's constantly trying to one-up him. He even approached Professor Shiba about enhancing his kagune's power, desperate for an edge.
His worldview is uncompromising: ghouls shouldn't exist, period. And his refusal to retreat—ever—comes from something personal. His father was a special class investigator who led the S3 squad and chose to stay behind and fight the One-Eyed Owl to the death while ordering his team to fall back. Urie's never forgiven Takeomi Kuroiwa and Iwao for not standing with his father that day. For him, retreating is a betrayal, and he'd rather destroy himself than accept it.
On a lighter note, he's actually a talented painter—though it's not something that comes up much.
