Haise is the main character of Tokyo Ghoul:re and works as a First Class Ghoul Investigator. He leads the Quinx Squad as their mentor and is part of Team Mado, operating under the supervision of Akira Mado and Kishou Arima.
On the surface, he's polite and approachable—the kind of guy who genuinely cares about his team's wellbeing and worries when they're reckless. He takes his job seriously, but he's also merciful; he doesn't believe Investigators should just exterminate ghouls without reason. That said, his kindness becomes a liability. His subordinates constantly walk all over him because they know he won't come down hard on them, which frustrates him more than anything.
He's a book person, prefers working with others over going it alone, and has a weird habit of making terrible puns. When he's thinking or uncomfortable, he scratches the back of his head. He follows orders without complaint and shows genuine respect for his colleagues.
The biggest thing about Haise, though, is how much he rejects his own ghoul side. Unlike some ghouls who eventually come to terms with what they are, he's disgusted by it and actively pushes back against it. When his ghoul instincts try to convince him otherwise, he shuts them down and leans on memories of his mentors for strength.
