Maximillion Pegasus is the eccentric American CEO of Industrial Illusions (I²) and creator of Duel Monsters, the trading card game that kicks off the whole series. He wields the Millennium Eye, which gives him some seriously unsettling powers—he can read minds and trap souls into cards, which he definitely uses to his advantage.
Pegasus establishes himself early on as one of the manga's major antagonists. His whole scheme revolves around forcing Yugi to enter his Duelist Kingdom tournament through some pretty underhanded means: he traps Yugi's grandfather Sugoroku's soul as a penalty for losing a Shadow Game, then later kidnaps Mokuba to manipulate Seto Kaiba into showing up as well. Throughout the arc, Yugi communicates with his trapped grandfather via camcorder—a detail that underscores how personal Pegasus's vendetta gets.
As both the game's creator and someone who discovered its ancient Egyptian origins, Pegasus becomes increasingly important as the story unfolds, especially in the anime. His knowledge of Duel Monsters and its mysterious history makes him far more than just a tournament organizer; he's genuinely central to understanding what's really going on with the cards themselves.
