Yuugi Mutou is a high school kid who gets bullied during the day and spends his nights obsessed with games and puzzles in his room—a hobby he inherited from his grandfather, who runs a game shop where they both live. One night, he finally solves the Millennium Puzzle, an artifact so difficult it seems impossible. Cracking it unleashes something dark inside him: a second personality called Yami Yuugi, far more aggressive and fearless than the real Yuugi. Yami takes over whenever Yuugi's in serious trouble, and he uses the control to become a vigilante of sorts. He challenges bullies and wrongdoers to high-stakes games where losing means getting way more than just embarrassed. Eventually, Yuugi ends up bonding with some of the same people who used to torment him, and they become genuinely close. But soon the group realizes they're up against something much worse than school bullies—criminals and schemers who weaponize games to destroy people. Now Yuugi and his friends have to survive opponents who actually want them dead.
