Jounouchi is Yuugi's best friend and probably the most loyal person in his life. He's brave, good-natured, funny, and genuinely kind-hearted—though he wasn't always that way.
Early on, Jounouchi bullied Yuugi, mainly because he was jealous of whatever made Yuugi special. That changed when a thug named Ushio beat him down along with Honda. Yuugi stepped in to defend them, and something clicked. That night, Jounouchi found the final piece of the Millennium Puzzle and brought it to Yuugi, leading to the series' first Shadow Game against Ushio. The whole experience touched him deeply, and the two became inseparable—Yuugi became his "treasure," just as important as anything else.
Jounouchi's got serious fighting skills and can hold his own against people way bigger than him, though the anime doesn't always play that up. He wasn't a gamer by nature, but Yuugi's influence changed that. He eventually got hooked on Duel Monsters and, despite starting out pretty rough, trained hard for both Duelist Kingdom and Battle City—initially for his sister's sake. By the end, he was genuinely competitive, sometimes pushing even Dark Yuugi to his limits.
He's selfless and caring, willing to do anything for the people he loves. The flip side? He's rash, immodest, and tends to be the comic relief. He's also terrified of ghosts, mummies, and anything creepy. Before meeting Yuugi, Jounouchi admits he had no real direction in life. Over time, he learned to channel his anger and aggression into games instead of his fists.
