Yuugi Mutou is an easy target for bullies—small, weak, and defenseless. His childhood friend Anzu Mazaki always jumps in to protect him, but he knows he can't rely on her forever. Then there's Katsuya Jonouchi and his best friend Hiroto Honda, who constantly get Yuugi into trouble despite not being outright villains. What Yuugi really wants is a true friend. Someone who gets him. Someone he can trust completely. Everything changes when Yuugi solves an ancient Egyptian puzzle that's been sitting in his grandfather's game shop. According to legend, completing it will grant his deepest wish. But what emerges isn't what he expected—instead, solving the puzzle awakens another personality inside him: Yami Yuugi, the "King of Games." Yami is everything Yuugi isn't. Dark, strong, confident, ruthless. Whenever someone wrongs Yuugi, Yami takes control and drags them into a Shadow Game. The rules are brutal: the loser gets a taste of the darkness in their own heart. And Yami always wins.
