Keigo's the type of guy who turns everything into a performance—all dramatic gestures and over-the-top reactions to basically everything. He's into typical teenage stuff: fireworks, RPGs, beach trips, the whole deal. He starts out as mostly comedic relief, but becomes more relevant as the story goes on.
He comes from an intact family, which is actually pretty rare in the series—his parents are still around, along with his sister Mizuho. The whole "both parents" thing makes him stand out alongside characters like Tatsuki.
As a person, Keigo's genuinely good-natured, even if he spends a lot of his screen time failing spectacularly at impressing girls or just bouncing off Ichigo for laughs. His best friend Mizuiro is basically his opposite: calm, collected, and weirdly successful with people, which makes the contrast work. Keigo's all impulse and bravado where Mizuiro's effortless.
He's got this weird pride about being mediocre academically—he actually brags about staying outside the top 50 and calls anyone who makes the honors list "traitors." Ichigo and Chad both landed high ranks, so obviously they caught flak from him. But Mizuiro's pointed out that Keigo's actually smarter than his grades suggest; he just doesn't care enough to try.
Later on, it turns out Keigo can see ghosts and soul reapers, which catches everyone off guard. His first encounter was with Ikkaku Madarame saving him from an Arrancar. He also got to see Ichigo in his soul reaper form before Ichigo headed to Hueco Mundo for Urahara's training sessions.
