Truth
Truth is the enigmatic entity that guards The Gate and encounters alchemists who've attempted to breach God's domain through alchemy. It exists as an almost formless white being, barely distinguishable from the endless white void surrounding The Gate except for a shadowy outline. The weird part—and Truth is pretty clear about this—is that it mirrors whoever it's talking to. When the Elric brothers showed up, it took the shape of a young boy. For Izumi Curtis, it reflected a young woman. Roy Mustang saw a vigorous man, and Father encountered a white version of his flask form. This mimicry is central to Truth's whole pitch about being another version of the person standing before it.
Truth presents itself as God, the World, the Universe—take your pick. It starts off seeming friendly and almost charming, then quickly pivots to calling out the alchemist's arrogance before yanking them through The Gate. At that moment, Truth's expression shifts into something deeply unsettling: an inhumanly wide grin that bears an eerie resemblance to the Homunculus Gluttony.
When the alchemist stumbles back out, Truth collects its payment for that unauthorized peek at universal knowledge. The cost is always physical—a body part that crumbles away from the person and materializes on Truth's form instead. Edward lost his left leg and right arm. Izumi lost internal organs. Roy lost his sight. Alphonse lost everything.
Truth seems genuinely invested in keeping humans out of this realm, calling Edward a fool when he returns and sacrifices his arm to save his brother's soul.
