Her actual story is pretty wild. She was born Ellen Brooks back in 1981, but got caught in a Scrub burst near the Caribbean that Eureka happened to save her from. She ended up in some American research facility that was apparently just churning out IFO pilots, and that's where she's been ever since.
Before Generation Bleu recruited her, Elena adopted a new name: Elena Peoples, taken from a girl who'd died about five years before the series starts. It's a practical choice, sure, but it also marks a clean break from who she used to be. The thing is, Elena hasn't actually moved on from any of this. She's fixated on getting back to Eureka's timeline, and honestly? She makes it pretty clear she hates Eureka for dragging her into the future in the first place.
