The guy's genuinely bitter. Now that he's an evil spirit, he's basically weaponized his psychic powers for his own agenda. His whole twisted goal is to "fix" the world by possessing people who've accumulated a lot of grudges—basically using them as vessels for his vision. He's willing to go to brutal extremes to make it happen: destroying a girl's body, impaling her father. He doesn't really care what collateral damage comes with his plans.
