Stresemann is an internationally celebrated conductor who shows up at Momogaoka Music Academy as a guest instructor, ostensibly as a favor to the Director—whom he's actually in love with. He immediately becomes infamous on campus for being the complete opposite of his prestigious reputation: perverted, demanding, and utterly undignified. Students basically peg him as a total oddball.
Despite this, he takes a genuine liking to Nodame and eventually makes Chiaki his one and only conducting apprentice, which is huge considering he'd been rejecting Chiaki's applications left and right. Sure, Stresemann's antics constantly drag Chiaki into trouble, but he's got an almost supernatural ability to teach music on an emotional level—showing students how to actually feel what they're playing rather than just hit the right notes.
His idea of work-life balance is. questionable. He's more likely to be found at One More Kiss or some other nightclub than actually conducting the rehearsals he's supposed to be leading. He gets drunk easily, which means Chiaki ends up filling in as vice-conductor constantly. The guy also loves organizing mixers and group outings for his orchestra, which sounds fun until you realize it's cutting into actual rehearsal time.
His hard-nosed assistant Elise eventually drags him back to Europe to salvage his professional obligations. By that point, though, Stresemann's developed something like a fatherly bond with both Nodame and Chiaki—a genuine softness beneath all the chaos.
