Ippon-Matsu ran the weapons shop in Loguetown where Zoro picked up two of his most iconic swords. He was the previous owner of both Sandai Kitetsu and Yubashiri.
When Zoro first came in, Ippon-Matsu tried to lowball him on his Wado Ichimonji—until Tashigi showed up and ruined the deal. But Zoro won him over by actually testing the cursed Sandai Kitetsu, casually tossing it in the air and holding out his arm to see if it would slice him. That kind of reckless confidence impressed the old man.
Moved by Zoro's attitude, Ippon-Matsu handed over Yubashiri for free. It wasn't just any sword—it was a family heirloom passed down through generations of swordsmen. He explained to his wife that giving it to Zoro felt like passing on his own dream to someone who'd actually live it.
He made a cameo appearance in The Detective Memoirs of Chief Straw Hat Luffy TV special.
