Aya is a poison-type specialist and ninja-in-training who runs the Fuchsia City Gym alongside her older brother Koga, who raised her from childhood. Beyond battling, she's genuinely into poetry.
She first showed up when Ash, Misty, and Brock rolled through the gym. Aya challenged Ash to a match with her Venonat versus his Bulbasaur—Bulbasaur won pretty handily thanks to Leech Seed. Koga appeared right after.
Later, Aya was training at a nearby dojo to learn Pokémon Jujitsu. It didn't go smoothly at first. She lost a rematch against Ash and couldn't quite get her Venonat to click with the new fighting style. But after running into Team Rocket, something clicked—she managed to bring out Venonat's full potential and actually took them down. After that, she headed back to the dojo to keep training and master the technique properly.
