Faust VIII comes from a long line of Faustus figures—people who allegedly made deals with the devil. But his story's less about dark legacy and more about love and grief.
As a kid, Faust was isolated and friendless except for one person: Eliza. When she fell terminally ill, he became obsessed with saving her. He studied medicine, eventually found a cure, and the two married and ran a clinic together in Germany. For a while, it looked like his devotion had paid off.
Then a burglar broke in one night and killed her.
That's when Faust snapped. He abandoned medicine and turned to necromancy—the dark magic his family had always dabbled in—specifically to bring Eliza back. Now he's competing to become the Shaman King, driven entirely by the need to resurrect her.
Eliza serves as his spirit companion, and he carries her skeleton with him constantly, chained to his arm. It's the whole thing that defines him: grief made tangible, literally tied to his body.
