Reed serves as a Lieutenant in the Earth Federation and gets assigned to a Salamis-class ship that's supposed to escort White Base on its journey down to Earth. Things go sideways when Char's forces attack—Reed gets hurt in the chaos, and his re-entry capsule ends up crashing onto White Base instead of making it to safety.
Stuck on White Base as it travels across North America, Reed becomes a constant headache for Bright, the two of them constantly butting heads over how to actually run the ship. Their disagreements are pretty much the defining feature of his time aboard. When Lt. Matilda and her supply convoy finally link up with White Base, she brings Reed along with her when she leaves, getting him off the ship.
