A missing-nin from Takigakure, Kakuzu is best known for his relentless pursuit of money—arguably the most money-obsessed member of the Akatsuki. He's paired with Hidan, and the two make an unlikely team since neither actually likes the other much. The partnership works mainly because Hidan can't die, which means Kakuzu doesn't have to worry about killing him in a fit of rage like he's done to every previous partner.
Kakuzu sees everything in terms of cash value. He's extended his bounty hunter background into his Akatsuki work, often combining missions with collecting bounties on the side. He even tolerates Hidan's bizarre religious rituals because they actually make bounty hunting more efficient. He calls himself the "Treasurer of Akatsuki"—whether that's official or just self-appointed is unclear—and apparently keeps personal bankers and accountants on staff.
Despite his obsession with profit, Kakuzu won't disobey the Akatsuki leadership if it means missing out on money. What he does hate is being forced to have teammates at all. His tendency to kill anyone around him when he gets angry has earned him a nasty reputation, which is why previous partnerships didn't last. Hidan, for his part, can't stand how Kakuzu reduces everything to financial gain and grows impatient with Hidan's slow, ritualistic fighting style. But again—Hidan's immortality makes him the only acceptable option, so they're stuck with each other.
