Chisame Hasegawa is the perpetually annoyed student number twenty-five. In class, she's antisocial and dismissive—she genuinely thinks most of her classmates are idiots, and she's openly baffled by how a ten-year-old kid (Negi) ended up teaching them, or why obvious outsiders like Chachamaru and Mana are even enrolled. She avoids attention like the plague in real life, but behind closed doors she's a totally different person: Chiu, a popular Net Idol obsessed with cosplay.
Unsurprisingly given her personality, she finds it deeply uncomfortable that other students have crushes on their elementary school teacher. Still, Negi manages to wear her down and pull her into his circle, eventually convincing her to engage with actual people. When she discovers magic exists, she reluctantly agrees to join his group.
She's scary good with computers—hacking into major databases is almost trivial for her. Once she forms a pactio with Negi, she gets the Sceptrum Virtuale, a heart-topped staff that lets her physically enter cyberspace as if it were a real place. There she can hack systems from the inside while her body stays safe in the real world, and she can bring others in with her. She's got a crew of virtual "spirits"—Kincha, Hanpe, Konnya, Chikuwafu, Negi, Daiko, and Shirataki—who hang around whenever she's near electronics, watch for viruses, and manipulate data to boost her site's ranking. The main catch: her abilities don't work offline, and the spirits vanish once her laptop dies. She uses her pactio more often for a different trick though—transforming into various cosplay outfits.
