Bumblebee is basically the scrappy little brother of the Autobots—always trying to prove himself to the bigger, stronger robots around him, especially Optimus Prime. His hero worship sometimes gets him into risky situations, but his size actually makes him perfect for the jobs that matter: sneaking around as a spy, delivering messages, going places the larger bots can't reach. He's fuel efficient, has sharp vision, does surprisingly well underwater, and turns into a Volkswagen Beetle. He's got a bit of a smart mouth too, though he backs it up with actual competence.
He's also been known as Bumble in Japan and Moscardo in Portugal. Later in his story, he was rebuilt into a stronger, more grown-up version called Goldbug.
