Gu works under Lieutenant Drake in the Marines. He's best known as a supporting character who showed up in Movie 4, though fans might recognize him from a second appearance during the G-8 Arc.
In the anime, he made a notable background appearance at Marineford alongside Vice Admiral Johnathan and other Marine officers during the pre-battle gathering before the war against Whitebeard—a scene that never made it into the manga. Since he's non-canon, most of his appearances are anime-only, which explains why manga readers wouldn't have encountered him.
