Kanzaki Shizuku finds himself thrust into the world of wine after his father's death. His father, Kanzaki Yutaka, was a legendary wine critic with an enormous collection, but rather than leaving it all to Shizuku outright, he's set up a challenge: find 13 specific wines—the "12 apostles" and "Les Gouttes de Dieu"—to claim the inheritance.
The catch is that Shizuku has never actually drunk wine and knows almost nothing about it. He's going up against Toomine Issei, a celebrated young wine critic and his father's adopted son, who presumably has a massive head start. What Shizuku does have going for him is an exceptional palate and sense of smell, plus whatever knowledge he picked up spending time with his father over the years.
He throws himself into learning everything he can, leaning heavily on support from his friends—especially Shinohara Miyabi, a sommelier trainee—as he works to crack the mysteries behind each of the 13 wines and, ultimately, outmatch Toomine for his father's legacy.
