Synopsis

Shizuku Kanzaki grew up as the only son of Yutaka Kanzaki, a world-famous wine critic who put him through an intense, unconventional education focused entirely on wine. His father had him memorize obscure sensory details—the smell of leather belts, pencil shavings, the proper way to decant—all in service of developing a refined palate. Unsurprisingly, Shizuku came to resent everything about wine. As soon as he could, he left home and built a normal life working as a beer company sales rep, swearing off wine completely. Then his father dies, and everything changes. According to Yutaka's will, whoever inherits his legendary wine collection and estate has to identify two things: the "12 Apostles"—a set of rare, prestigious wines—and the mysterious "Drops of God." Shizuku has one year to pull it off. It seems like a weird stipulation when he's the only family member around, but there's a catch his father didn't mention. A week before dying, Yutaka adopted Issei Tomine, a renowned veteran wine critic. Now Shizuku has competition. Issei, known as "The Prince of Wine," is a seasoned expert, while Shizuku has basically no formal training and spent years actively avoiding wine. He's got a year to identify wines he knows nothing about or watch everything get handed to his new rival. The clock is ticking.
