Vash is best known for his split personality act. Most of the time, he plays up an exaggerated, goofy persona—complete with an obsessive love of doughnuts—as a way to seem harmless and throw people off his actual identity. At one point, he introduced himself with a deliberately absurd name so long it's basically a joke: "Valentinez Alkalinella Xifax Sicidabohertz Gombigobilla Blue Stradivari Talentrent Pierre Andri Charton-Haymoss Ivanovich Baldeus George Doitzel Kaiser III." But the second anyone around him faces real danger, all that fooling around drops away and he becomes laser-focused and in complete control.
His reputation precedes him everywhere he goes. Known as "The Humanoid Typhoon," Vash is legendary—though mostly for the trail of destruction that seems to follow him wherever he appears. The irony is that despite being one of the most wanted men around, he genuinely won't hurt a soul if he can help it.
What makes Vash compelling is how much of a walking contradiction he actually is. He'll flirt shamelessly one moment and act like a complete gentleman the next. He can be a coward and then pull off something genuinely brave without warning. Everything about him seems designed to contradict everything else.
