She's passionate about swimming and joined the school's Swimming Club, but as her final year of junior high wrapped up, she could only land a spot as the third substitute on the team—which stung. When she seriously thought about quitting like her friends were doing, she was surprised to find herself actually crying about it, realizing the sport meant more to her than she'd admitted.
One night after school, she ended up at the pool and spotted Keima swimming with this impossibly beautiful, flawless technique. She was immediately drawn to him—later she'd learn he was using some kind of feather cloth thing to pull off the performance, but at that moment, she just saw him as this shining figure cutting through the dark water, almost dreamlike. That moment basically cemented her interest in him.
