Genma's most recognizable trait is the senbon he's almost always got clenched between his teeth. He actually uses it in combat—either spitting it out at enemies with surprising force (up to 60mph) or deflecting incoming attacks. The name "Shiranui" roughly translates to "phosphorescent light."
He stepped into the role of Chunin Exam proctor after Hayate Gekkou was killed, taking over the main match examinations. During the Konoha invasion, he faced off against Baki, and while the fight happened off-screen, both walked away relatively unharmed. He proved more useful when teaming up with Raido Namiashi against the Sound Four—the two pushed them hard enough that the Sound ninja had to activate level 2 of their cursed seals just to win. The Sound Four even admitted afterward that without that power boost, they would've lost.
Back in the day, Genma served as one of Minato's personal bodyguards alongside Raido and Iwashi. During the ninja war, the three of them collaborated to use the Flying Thunder God technique and transport Mei to the main battlefield, after which Genma pursued Lord Mu into the desert.
His three-man squad originally included Maito Guy and Ebisu, with Chouza Akamichi leading the team. Over his career, he's racked up an impressive 935 official missions: 185 D-rank, 220 C-rank, 454 B-rank, 74 A-rank, and 2 S-rank.
