Al is Priscilla's knight, though he's the first to admit he doesn't really think of himself that way. He sees the role more as being her caretaker—which works out fine since Priscilla treats him like a handyman and occasional entertainment. Neither of them seems bothered by how their dynamic actually works.
He's got a goofy, easygoing personality that made it surprisingly natural for him to click with Subaru, especially given that he'd spent over a decade in a completely different world before that. He doesn't take himself too seriously and has no problem joking around about his own limitations. When it comes to fighting, he's pretty honest about the fact that he can't just overpower people—his whole approach is outsmarting them and catching them off guard. It's worked for him so far.
